The name “Minck” or “Mijn” is from Dunkerque’s Flemish heritage, as it means “mine” in Dutch.
In the past, a tradition governed the sale of fish at Place du Minck. Fishermen competed to sell their catches, and the first one to shout “Minck” would win the opportunity to sell their fish
