The name “Minck” or “Mijn” is from Dunkerque’s Flemish heritage, as it means “mine” in Dutch.

In the past, a tradition governed the sale of fish at Place du Minck. Fishermen competed to sell their catches, and the first one to shout “Minck” would win the opportunity to sell their fish

still today, Every morning, fishermen gather at Place du Minck to sell their fresh catch directly from the aubettes, fishermen traditional shop facing the Leughenaer tour (Liar tower history coming soon )
